Frequently Asked Questions
Here are a few frequently asked questions about the Summit. If you have other questions, please email summit@globemed.org.
Who can attend the Summit?
Any GlobeMed member is eligible to apply for the Summit, regardless of how long the member has been involved in the GlobeMed chapter at his or her university. A limited number of GlobeMed alumni will also be able to attend.
Can newer GlobeMed members attend the Summit?
Of course! We want newer GlobeMed members to attend the Summit to grow closer with the GlobeMed community and better understand the work that is taking place across our network. The GlobeMed National Office plans to select a number of newer members and exec board members from each chapter.
What’s with the applications?
Given the trend in Summit attendance, we anticipate an overwhelming amount of interest in the 2010 GlobeMed Global Health Summit. Given both financial and space constraints, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate every GlobeMed member that wants to attend the Summit. Therefore, the GlobeMed National Office will be accepting applications from ANY GlobeMed member that wants to attend the event. These applications will be used by the GlobeMed National Office to determine Summit participants for the 2010 Summit.
What is the GlobeMed National Office looking for in the applications?
Summit participants will be selected based upon the commitment that they have shown to their GlobeMed chapter and the movement for global health equity. Additionally, applicants should demonstrate how the Summit will provide them with the knowledge and skills to improve the work of the GlobeMed chapter at their university (or their global health plans beyond college).
How much does it cost to attend the Summit?
We wish we didn’t have to, but the GlobeMed National Office must charge a registration fee to help cover some (but not nearly all) of the lodging, food, and venue costs of the Summit. Therefore, there is a registration fee of $65 to attend the Summit, with a $15 discount for those who apply by January 14.
How many members from each chapter will be selected?
There is no set number on how many Summit participants will come from each chapter. Based off of the number of applicants and the size of each chapter, the GlobeMed National Office will strive to create a fair balance of attendees.
